7 Days Marrakech To Fes

After check-in and some time to relax, you will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating Medina of Marrakech, one of Morocco's four imperial cities. Discover some of the city's most remarkable historical and cultural landmarks, including the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace, Saadian Tombs, Ben Youssef Madrasa, Jemaa el-Fnaa Square and the Mellah, the historic Jewish Quarter. You may also visit the famous Majorelle Garden and the Berber Museum, located in the modern district of Gueliz. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Marrakech, explore its traditional souks and discover the unique blend of history, architecture and Moroccan culture. After breakfast, at approximately 8:00 a.m., your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or riad and your adventure towards the Sahara Desert will begin. We will cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, located at approximately 2,260 metres above sea level. Along the way, we will make several stops to admire the panoramic views, dramatic mountain landscapes and traditional Berber villages scattered throughout the Atlas Mountains. Our journey continues to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, one of Morocco's most impressive fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has also served as a filming location for several internationally renowned movies, including Lawrence of Arabia, Kundun, The Mummy, Gladiator, Sahara and Babel. We will explore the ancient Kasbah before enjoying a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where you can discover some of the flavours of traditional Moroccan cuisine. After lunch, there will be some free time to relax before continuing towards the Dades Valley. Our route takes us through Ouarzazate, the Skoura Palm Grove and the beautiful Valley of the Roses, before reaching the spectacular Dades Valley. Overnight: Hotel or riad in the Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we will begin the day by enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Dades Valley, with time to stop for photographs and admire the surrounding landscapes. We will then continue towards the Sahara, passing through the impressive Todra Gorges, one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in southern Morocco. Here, you will have time to explore the gorge and enjoy a traditional Moroccan tea while taking in the peaceful atmosphere. Our journey continues towards Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossils and fossil-rich stone. From Erfoud, we will head towards the magnificent Erg Chebbi Dunes, the gateway to the Merzouga Desert. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel or riad. You will have time to relax and explore the dunes surrounding the accommodation. As the day comes to an end, we will enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Sahara Desert. Overnight: Hotel or riad in Merzouga.

After breakfast, we will explore the fascinating surroundings of the Merzouga Desert. Our journey will take us through areas inhabited by nomadic families, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Moroccan tea with a local Berber family and learn more about their way of life. We will then visit Khamlia, a village famous for its traditional Gnawa music. Here, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a live performance and discover one of Morocco's unique musical traditions. We will continue to the Mifis Mines, the surrounding desert plateaus and the beautiful Tissardmine Oasis, discovering the diverse landscapes of the region. Around midday, we will return to the hotel or riad for some time to relax before beginning the highlight of the day. In the afternoon, we will set off on a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. As we cross the golden dunes, we will stop to admire the magnificent Sahara sunset. After sunset, we will continue to our traditional Berber desert camp, where you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea. Enjoy a delicious dinner followed by traditional Berber music and drumming around the campfire. Finally, relax beneath the spectacular star-filled sky and spend the night in a traditional Berber haima (desert tent). Overnight: Berber desert camp in Merzouga.

Wake up early to climb one of the dunes and enjoy a breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara. After sunrise, we will return to the camp by camel and head back to the hotel or riad, where you can take a shower and enjoy a delicious Moroccan breakfast. After breakfast, we will begin our journey towards Fes. We will first pass through Rissani, a historic town famous for its traditional souk, where local communities from the surrounding villages come to trade goods and livestock. We will then continue towards Erfoud before crossing the spectacular Ziz Valley, known for its impressive palm groves and beautiful panoramic landscapes. Our journey continues towards Midelt, where we will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we will travel towards Azrou and make a stop in the famous Cedar Forest, where we may have the opportunity to see the Barbary macaques. We will then continue to Ifrane, a charming mountain town often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine-style architecture and beautiful mountain setting. We will finally arrive in Fes, where we will check into our hotel or riad. Overnight: Hotel or riad in Fes.

Today is dedicated to discovering the historic city of Fes, one of Morocco's four imperial cities and one of the country's most important cultural centres. The day will focus on exploring the fascinating Medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. Discover the ancient streets of Fes el-Bali, the historic walled city, and explore Fes el-Jdid, home to the historic Mellah, the former Jewish Quarter. Depending on your interests and available time, highlights may include the Bou Inania Madrasa, Nejjarine Museum, Batha Museum, Marinid Tombs, traditional souks and the famous tanneries. Take time to explore the colourful markets, traditional workshops and narrow streets of the Medina while experiencing the authentic atmosphere of one of Morocco's most historic cities.
